HISG has been working with partners to implement community health training for the people of Chad. There are many factors contributing to the poverty in Chad, including limited access to clean water, poor educational opportunities, and low life expectancy. The community health initiative is focused on improving the quality of life by helping to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases.
The people of Chad are also struggling to recover from widespread violence that broke out between the government and rebels earlier this year. Communities are very fearful, and thousands of people fled the country. In addition, Chad hosts hundreds of thousands of refugees from Darfur along the Eastern border of the country. These issues are putting an enormous strain on a country that was already one of the poorest in the world.
In the midst of all of this, HISG is working with a very committed team of partners who are exploring many different avenues to help the communities in Chad. The health training is one part of our vision to see communities transformed through holistic, sustainable solutions that benefit the local people.
