Cambodia City Development

Children inspecting the new drainage pipes
Cambodia, 2009

HISG is helping to make a city in northwest Cambodia cleaner and safer, as well as creating jobs for the community. HISG is supporting construction teams that are laying hundreds of meters of pipes that are replacing open ditches full of raw sewage like the one pictured below. The sewer water spreads diseases and gets so full during the rainy season that each year children fall into them and drown. We do not often think of a sewer pipe as saving lives, but the families in the community are grateful and relieved that the ditches have been replaced.

The quality of the work has been outstanding, and the response from the community has been equally positive. The construction project is creating new jobs, making life better for the people in the city, and helping the local officials improve their community. HISG emphasizes this kind of holistic effort in transforming communities. You can partner with us by clicking here. To read more about HISG's holistic approach to community development, click here.
