For the first time ever in China, large numbers of elderly men and women are in need of care at assisted living homes. The younger generation is moving away from the traditional practice of personally caring for their parents and grandparents and the country is wrestling with how to accomodate the rapidly growing population of senior citizens.
HISG is helping to train workers to care for the elderly who need assistance. The training has been well-received as hundreds of students at a time are crowding in to attend. Not only is it teaching a marketable skill that will help men and women find jobs, but it is also equipping communities to care for the increasing number of senior citizens in need of help.
One of the participants in the course had this to say:
" I am over 30 years old. Today is the first time for me to receive
training. I am very happy that I could have this great opportunity to
learn more information about the care giving, because it give me a
opportunity to find a job. This year is very difficult for our
villagers. We cried a lot for our wheat did not get the rain it needed.
Also, the whole world economy situation makes us lose jobs. So we many
farmers have to leave the factories, as well as me, for the factories
are closed... The most important thing is I am very confident to look
for a new job in this special time."
