Brazil - Medical Team

Free dental care for children at the clinic
Brazil, 2008

An HISG-supported medical team visited Brazil in the summer of 2008 to provide medical care, medical supplies, and health training to communities around Lavarje and Barrio San Martin. The group delivered thousands of dollars of supplies, hosted two medical teams conducting clinics for 12 days each, and provided community health training to more than 3,000 people.

The medical team visited a very poor area of Brazil that has extremely limited access to modern health care, and performed life-saving treatments to the patients that visited the clinics. The health education program consisted of basic first aid, nutrition and exercise, child development, oral health and hygiene, drug/alcohol abuse, earthquake survival, sun exposure and skin disease, and a number of other important topics.

The local government in the area has recognized the community's urgent need for health care and education. They are eager to have the medical team return for more training and clinics. HISG is supporting short-term medical teams, like this one as they provide necessary care for those who cannot afford it. If you would like more information about supporting one of these short-term medical teams, please contact us or consider making a donation to HISG.
