HISG is in a race against time to rescue 20,000 people in a hopeless situation in Carrefour, Haiti. We are working with two other non profits and a local business to organize an event in Windsor, Colorado this Sunday, January 31 to jump start this initiative. If you are in the Northern Colorado area, we would love for you to join us at Loodles Coffee House in Windsor to find out how you can get involved.
Carrefour, Haiti, a city of 500,000 people west of Port Au Prince, sustained horrific damage in the January 12 earthquake, but the people have received very little help because they are outside the city limits of the capital. Ten days after the event, many of these people had wounds that had not yet been treated, broken bones that had not yet been set, and no food or water. They are neglected and desperate.
Here is a link to a video blog by Mark Ludy, owner of Loodles, where he talks about why he is so passionate about helping the people of Haiti.
We are supporting a children's hospital in Carrefour surrounded by 20,000 people made homeless by the earthquake. Our goal in this project is to reach out to these families by meeting their most basic needs. One team that is setting up water treatment systems that can provide a thousands of gallons of water every day. Another team will be bringing in food. We are also working closely with medical teams to rotate into the hospital for the next three months, to establish this location as a refuge for the hurting people in the community.
