HISG is cooperating with other organizations in the Starfish Community to install several high capacity water purification systems (pictured) in community and relief centers in the Port-Au-Prince area of Haiti. The first shipments of these water purification systems have arrived, and the first two systems are operational and providing safe water. Given the status of the city's ports and airport bottleneck, this is extraordinary progress. Each water purification system can treat over 10,000 gallons of water per day, so the arrival of this shipment will change the outlooks of entire communities.
In the interview below, Brad Reed of Water Missions International, which engineered and provided the water purification systems, talks about the value of the Starfish Community working together during disasters. Even though HISG played a key role in launching the Community and enabling the interaction, HISG is just one piece of the larger network. Together, we are able to leverage the combined strengths of a number of different partners to touch thousands of lives in Haiti.
HISG also has access to thousands of single-family drip filter units that can supply a family with clean water for an entire year. The filters are easy to assemble and maintain, and are available right away. You can click the donate button below to give to this need. If you would like to give through HISG to provide water to Haiti, please click the donate button below. Through the gift of a generous partner, HISG will match the first $5,000 in donations, effectively doubling the impact of your gift!
Brad and Matt Wallace talk about HISG's coordination with WMI to deliver water filtration units to Port Au Prince.
