Statistically, every 14 seconds a child in Sub-Saharan Africa is orphaned. This leaves a staggering number of children in Africa with no one to look after them. In Kenya alone, there are around 1.6 million orphans, and it is estimated that 150,000 of those children are infected with HIV. HISG is reaching out to these children by working with a home for AIDS orphans in Nairobi. The home provides a family setting for children to feel safe and secure, and HISG has helped them build a primary school that was finished just in time for the school to accept 91 more children into the program. You can read more about the home, and see pictures of the school online at www.HISG.org.
HONG KONG - Recently in Hong Kong, HISG staff was asked to present our Community Development model at a workshop for a group of professionals who were passionate about Corporate Social Responsibility. One of the attendees called the concepts "unequivocally a mind opener," and urged her colleagues to take a deeper look at the principles in the training. We experienced a similar response earlier this year in Jakarta, Indonesia among another group of young professionals concerned with social responsibility. Our mission and methods are having an impact amongst these groups, because they see the results of HISG projects and share that passion to help meet needs and bring holistic and sustainable community development in their areas. We can help your organization become a part of this movement toward social responsibility and make a lasting impact in a poor community. Please contact us if you would like more information on how you can partner with HISG and others around the world to connect resources to needs.
NEW YORK - HISG was recently invited to New York City to teach at an International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA) course. The IDHA is an internationally recognized standard in humanitarian education, with nearly 1,000 participants representing 120 nations. This is the second time this year that HISG staff has taught in an IDHA course, and as a result we have been able to develop partnerships with a number of participants in the course. Through these relationships, HISG has helped hundreds of people, from slums in Africa to emergency clinics in the Middle East. The IDHA program gives HISG a unique platform to build strong partnerships that are changing lives.
